“I didn’t say you could leave.” He approached me, his muscles rippling effortlessly in his black tank top.
“Oh.”
I looked over my shoulder again, tense.
“Besides...” He set a mug of steaming hot chocolate on the coffee table. “It's pouring out there. You can wait until it stops.” His jaw tightened as he let his gaze drift over my figure.
I eyed the hot chocolate skeptically even though my insides churned with hunger.
“I didn’t poison it,” he said as if he could read my mind. “If I wanted you dead, don’t you think I’d have done that while you were passed out on my sofa like a log of wood?”
True.
I sluggishly approached the sofa, grabbing the mug to take a sip. I nearly moaned. It was perfect, more or less the best thing I had consumed in days.
Although it was obvious, I was grateful he didn’t bring up questions about the bruises on my face and body. It hurt too much to think or talk about it.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
He didn’t say a word.
When I raised my gaze, our eyes clashed. It was the first time I looked at him. I was stunned by how lifeless his bluish-gray eyes appeared. He had wild, unruly dark strands that were like a total mess atop his head. The deep frown on his face seemed like a bonus alongside the harsh, breathtaking structures of his features, too sharp and intimidating. I didn’t know a man could be both beautiful and scary.
“What?” he snapped.
I flinched, my breath catching. “S-sorry,”
“Stop staring.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Stop apologizing.”
“I—”
His eyes hardened, and I swallowed the words instantly.
“You look like shit. You need a bath and change of clothes,” he said shrewdly.
“No, I wouldn’t want to—”
“Get up.”
“What?”
He narrowed his eyes on me, and I took that as my cue to rise to my feet. He led me to the bathroom and handed me a clean hoodie and sweatpants.
It didn’t matter how hard I scrubbed Derek’s imprint off me. He was still all over me. So, I gave up and changed into the outfit he gave me.
After I changed, he stepped away and returned to the living room, clad in a black ensemble.
“Where are you going?” Damn me and my big mouth.
“Out.” He grunted out the word like talking was the hardest chore in the world.
“You are going to leave me here? Wow, how smart of you, genius.” The words spilled out of my mouth before I could stop them, laced with sarcasm.
He whipped a deadly gaze in my direction.
