The doors of the hangar opened. And in seconds the Sons came through. Black bikes in black cuts. So many of them were here, surrounding us like we were in a rally.
Derek’s grip loosened a bit. Even he knew something had changed. The fear coating his face was evidence enough.
A bike stopped in front of us, and Knox took his time hopping down. His eyes found mine. And everything inside me broke.
“Knox,” I called, my voice cracking.
His face changed as he took a step forward. He scanned my face, noting my bruises, his jaw ticking as he went. Then his eyes dropped to where Derek still held me, something dangerous flashing in his eyes.
Derek laughed nervously. “You came all this way for her? For some pussy?”
Knox stepped forward and said calmly, maybe too calmly. “She’s not yours.”
Derek smiled, playing with his life. “She was. I found her first. I had a taste of her first.”
Knox’s expression didn’t move. “It would be in your best interest to let her go right now.”
Derek hesitated, but like he realized he was fighting a losing battle, he let me go, shoving me toward Knox. A mistake.
Knox moved. Fast. In a blur of movements. One second, he stood across from me, and the other, he'd disarmed Derek with a flurry of movements, pushing him to the floor.
His arm wrapped around me, pulling me into him. His hands were shaking as he held me, rubbing my back as I cried into his chest. I was so scared.
“You okay?” he asked, voice hoarse.
I nodded even though I was shaking. His hand touched my face gently as he wiped away my tears.
My lips wobbled. “You came.”
The words left me before I could stop them.
His jaw tightened. Like he couldn't believe I just asked him that. “Always.”
He pushed me into him again, holding me tightly, as if reminding me he was here. Derek was picked up, and his men were ambushed. Knox waited until I was calm before pulling back again.
“As long as you're with me, you'll never be alone again, Wren. You'll never have to fight your battles alone,” he said, looking me in the eye fiercely. “I promise.”
And I believed him. I believed what he said because he'd proven over and over that I could trust him.
But it didn't mean I was done.
I spun around, anger filling me slowly. Derek was on the floor, Mason and Viper caging him in. It was finally dawning on him that he was screwed, fingers tugging at his shirt.
My blood boiled. My body heated up from within. How dare he? How dare he look scared when all he'd done was traumatize me? Made me feel unsafe?
“Wren?” Knox called, but I was no longer listening.
Another bike rolled in. My eyes snapped away from Derek to Sloane hopping down from her bike, already coming to me. Her gaze flickered from Knox to me, anger flaring deeply in her eyes.
“I couldn't stay away,” she muttered before walking toward me and crushing me in her embrace. I stiffened at first before relaxing, letting her hand movements on my back calm me.
“What do you want to do to him?” she asked.
Knox took a step back, gaze searching mine.
“I'm going to teach him a lesson.”
