Her eyes lift to Malakai. “Why?”
He doesn’t answer immediately. His attention moves around the house, and whatever he feels wipes the relief from his face. “The boundary changed.”
Ezra goes rigid. “What?”
Malakai keeps his attention fixed on the door. “It moved.”
Ezra’s expression tightens. “To where?”
This time, Malakai looks at Sage. “Here.”
Silence settles over the room.
Sage blinks at him. “I’m sorry?”
“The Harvest followed you.”
Her eyes narrow. “To the house?”
“Yes.”
She stares at him for a long second. “Can it not?”
“No.”
“Great.” She turns and walks away.
One step.
Two.
Three.
Then she stops.
Her shoulder rise with a slow breath before she spins back around, “Actually, no. Fuck this.” She points toward the living room, then at the three of us. “Living room. Now.”
I raise an eyebrow.
Her finger shifts directly toward me. “Don’t.”
I close my mouth. I hadn’t said anything, but apparently my face did.
Still, I follow.
Mostly because I’m curious what happens when Sage McBride decides she’s had enough of three immortal men and an ancient Harvest in the same night.
Ezra mutters something under his breath as he follows, with Malakai close behind.
By the time we reach the living room, Mariah and Ali have already claimed the sofa.
Sage remains standing. She looks at us. “I’m going to ask questions.”
Ezra opens his mouth.
She holds up one finger. “And you’re going to answer them.”
His mouth closes.
