Heat slides straight through my stomach and settles low enough that my thighs instinctively press together.
Jesus fucking Christ.
His eyes darken.
He noticed.
Of course he noticed.
I yank my hand away, agony tears through me so violently that I gasp and fold forward.
Malakai catches me again.
The instant his skin meets mine, it stops.
We stare at each other.
No. No fucking way.
The color drains from Ezra’s face.
My fear spikes. “What?”
Malakai studies his hand where it rests against my skin before looking toward Rhett, then Ezra.
Something passes between the three of them.
Recognition.
Fear.
And unless I’ve completely lost my fucking mind, hunger.
Ezra is the one who finally speaks. “The Revel.”
Malakai shakes his head. “No.”
“What?” I demand. “What about it?”
Rhett moves closer, studying me differently now. Not crudely. Not even hungrily. Like another piece of a puzzle just slid into place. “The rites are overlapping.”
Malakai’s jaw tightens. “They shouldn’t.”
“But they are.”
I look between them. “And what the fuck does that mean for me?”
Ezra rises. “It means we go back.”
I stare at him. “No.”
“Sage.”
“NO.” Panic sharpens my voice. “I just tried to leave your haunted fucking farm and got dropped to my knees by an invisible leash. I am not walking willingly back into it.”
“You can’t cross the boundary.”
“We don’t know that.”
