“You weren’t sure?”

“Baby, you spent twenty thousand dollars on me. Your judgment is questionable.”

I shove him.

He catches me and pulls me straight back.

His mouth stops inches from mine.

“Last chance, librarian.”

“For what?”

“To make a sensible decision.”

I look at the motorcycle behind him.

At the town watching us.

At the man everybody warned me about.

Then I grab the front of his shirt.

“I’m done being sensible.”

I kiss him. Ryder’s arm locks around my waist and he lifts me clean off the ground.

I laugh against his mouth as people around us start clapping.

Someone whistles.

Then Lila’s voice cuts across the square.

“I expect my twenty grand back!”

Ryder breaks the kiss just long enough to look over my shoulder.

“Send me an invoice.”

The crowd laughs.

I bury my face against his neck.

“You realize they’re going to talk about this for years.”

“Good.”

He puts me down but doesn’t let go.

“Give them something worth talking about.”

“Ryder.”

He kisses me again.

And for the first time in my life, I don’t care who’s watching.

Devil’s Peak can call me the good girl.
