I take it. “I’m done being sensible.”
His eyes move over me.
Jeans. Boots. Jacket.
Then back to my face. “That’s going to be a problem.”
“For who?”
“Me.”
I put on the helmet before he can see me blush.
Ryder climbs onto the bike.
Then looks over his shoulder. “Come on.”
I climb on behind him. There is approximately six inches between us. I intend to keep every one of them.
Ryder looks down then back at me. “Hold on.”
“To what?”
“Me.”
I hesitate.
His mouth curves. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. It’s not against the rules.”
I put my hands lightly on his sides. He laughs.
“What?”
“You’re going to need to do better than that.”
“Why?”
The engine roars to life beneath us. Ryder reaches back, catches my wrist and pulls my arm firmly around his waist. My body slides against his back.
Every thought leaves my head.
He turns just enough that I hear him over the engine. “Because I don’t want to scrape twenty thousand dollars’ worth of librarian off the highway.”
I tighten my arms around him. “Still think I overpaid.”
His hand closes briefly over mine. “Give me three hours.”
Then he pulls onto the road.
And for once in my life, I don’t do the sensible thing.
Chapter 4
Ryder
Putting Clara Bennett on the back of my motorcycle is the worst idea I’ve had in years.
I realize this approximately thirty seconds after she climbs on.
