“I haven’t stolen anything.”
The shadows shift.
“You have taken my son.”
Oh, shit.
Hypnos.
I take a step backward.
“He doesn’t belong to you.”
The darkness trembles.
“You dare speak to me of belonging?”
I lift my chin.
“Apparently, it runs in the family.”
A furious growl rolls through the void.
Then the figure raises one hand.
The darkness rushes toward me.
I scream.
* * *
I bolt upright in bed.
My heart pounds.
Rain lashes the windows.
And Morpheus is standing beside me, his silvery eyes glowing in the darkness.
“Calla.”
He sits on the edge of the mattress.
“Look at me.”
I grab his arm.
“Your father.”
His expression hardens.
“I know.”
“He was in my dream.”
“I felt him enter.”
I stare at him.
