The way he’s looking at me right now is a sexy little mix of awe and concern.
‘Chaos,’ he mutters. ‘Pure chaos.’
He rounds the couch and pointedly looks at the space where my legs are currently lounging before he flicks his eyes back to me.
I lift another nut to my mouth as he hovers, waiting. For? ‘What?’
‘Scooch.’ He motions with his head.
He wants me… he… I’m confused.
‘Why can’t you take the cuck chair?’
We both look over to the armchair facing the couch.
‘Because,’ he drawls, ‘I’m not a cuck.’ A crooked smile that’s all teeth stares back at me. Vicious man.
‘You sure about that? You seemed pretty reluctant to leave when pool boy was—’
Walker lifts my legs out of the way himself. I can’t feel his hands. Only a cool pressure against the back of my calves. When there’s space, he settles into the seat beside me with his paper in hand and magics his glasses out of the shadows. I watch his eyes dart side to side as he begins scanning the headlines.
‘It is rude to stare,’ he says, flicking the paper.
Right. Rude. Well, he would be the authority on that considering he’s the rudest being I’ve ever met.
‘I’ll be away over the next week,’ he continues, unprompted.
‘Oh,’ I say unemotionally. ‘Noooo.’
He looks at me deadpan. ‘I know you’ll miss me, darling, but do try to contain yourself.’
‘I, ah, was checking on an application for a rental earlier but it appears it’s been removed.’
‘How strange,’ he says, despondent.
‘Yeah. You know anything about that?’
He shakes his head ‘no’ without looking at me.
‘Looks like you’re stuck with me for a while longer then.’ I shrug.
His eyes raise to mine. Something undefinable glowing in his green eyes. ‘What a shame.’
I snort. I think I see a little twitch of his lips. It could just be the shitty lighting flickering above us though.
‘Walker?’
‘Yes, Chaos?’
‘Lavender said you’re a retriever.’
‘Well, that’s a generous way to put it.’
‘What does that mean?’
‘It means you were right when you called me a dog.’ I tilt my head and he continues. ‘I fetch things for people that can’t reach them themselves.’
‘What do you fetch?’
