Tessa, seriously?
What have you gotten yourself into?
Chapter Nine
“You’re doing what?” Iris asked.
Tessa couldn’t believe it either. Now that she’d told other people this hairbrained scheme out loud, she realized just how crazy it sounded.
They were in the backyard, on the trampoline, but everyone had stopped jumping when they’d heard what was going on.
“I’m, uh, kind of… sort of… pretending to be Damon Drake’s Little to make that really famous actress, Lissa Keller, jealous.”
Oh wow. It sounded even crazier the second time.
“Does Auntie Athena know about this?” Lana asked.
“Not yet,” Tessa responded.
The Littles all exchanged glances.
“I’ll tell her,” Tessa said.
The trampoline jiggled a little as they shifted on their feet.
“It’s for a good cause,” Samantha said.
“Yeah. I mean, if this Max guy really is sleazy, then what you’re doing is no different than the crazy things we’ve done with the Daddy Guard. We pretended to be all sorts of things.”
The other Littles agreed.
“Thanks for not judging me,” Tessa said. “I just want to help Damon out. He seems like a cool guy.”
Okay, she didn’t just want to help him out. There was that underlining motive…
Before she could say anything else, her phone buzzed. Pulling it from the pocket of her jeans, she saw it was Damon. It felt so strange to have a movie star’s number in her phone now! But if this was going to work, they’d have to stay in constant contact.
Besides, they’d become fast friends.
There seemed to be a real connection there.
Just in a friend sort of way, of course.
“Whoa!” she said after checking her texts.
“What’s up?” Iris asked.
After re-reading the text, Tessa said, “He somehow found out Lissa was going shopping with her new Daddy. So he wants to take me shopping.”
“The ol’ accidentally bumping into each other trick,” Samantha said. “A tried-and-true classic.”
Tessa wondered how Damon had come by this information, but that didn’t matter, she supposed.
Her new friend needed her to play her role now.
She wouldn’t let him down.
“Are you going to tell Auntie Athena now?” Iris asked.
