Damon cocked his head. “How do you know I’m a Daddy?”
Thinking about it, Tessa realized she didn’t actually know.
“I just… assumed, I guess.”
He grinned at her. “Well, you called it. I am. But you don’t have to call me sir unless that’s what makes you feel comfortable.”
She just smiled at him, unsure what to say.
Then she once again realized she was only wearing a thin cami and the thick diaper.
Yikes!
“I’ll, uh… be right back.” She quickly turned and was about to hurry toward the back staircase again when he called out.
“Wait. Please.”
She slowly turned around. “Yes, Sir?”
There you go again, Tessa. You just can’t stop yourself!
“I’d like to apologize for last night. I was a little drunk, obviously, and I’m sorry that was our first time meeting.”
Auntie Caroline ducked between them, quickly placed a big bowl of scrambled eggs on the island next to a plate of pancakes, and then went back to the stove.
“Don’t mention it,” Tessa told him. “Seriously, no big deal.”
She began to turn again but he started talking once more.
“I know there’s lots of good food here, and Caroline has worked hard. But would it be all right if I took you to breakfast?”
There was no way Tessa could conceal the excitement she was feeling inside, and the grin she now wore showed it.
A movie star? Taking her out? Holy cow! She’d barely been in Hollywood any time at all! Was this what her new life was going to be like from here on out?
But the burning question remained, stopping her excitement for a moment. Why did Damon Drake want to take her out?
A second question came to mind, this one perhaps burning even hotter than the other one.
She needed to talk with Iris and the girls.
“Can you give me a minute?”
Tessa realized that was neither a yes or no, but Damon didn’t seem to mind.
“Take your time. I’m going to finish this orange juice and then have a cup of coffee. No rush.”
Tessa thanked him, told Auntie Caroline the breakfast smelled good, and then hurried back up the stairs. She found Iris and the others coming down the hall with Auntie Athena.
“Is everything all right?” Auntie asked.
“Yeah. I think so. Can I talk to you all?”
Athena must have sensed that it was of a private nature, because she jerked her head toward the nursery door. “How about in there?”
Once they were all inside, Tessa said, “Damon Drake is downstairs and he wants to take me to breakfast.”
“Whoa!” Cami said. “A date with a movie star? That’s pretty cool!”
