Five whole years.
I had spent those years convincing myself that I was the only one who was still stuck in the mindset of thinking maybe one day we’d meet again.
I’d convinced myself and imagined women in hotel rooms with the man I was currently sharing a bed with.
Turns out, it was all just in my head. The revelation alone renders me speechless.
After a good two minutes of silence, he finally speaks up. “You’re quiet and that scares me.”
I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief. I was trying not to focus on the fact we were still naked against each other, and more on the fact he told me he had been basically celibate for the last five years.
“Well, you just dropped the bomb of the century, Wyatt. How do you expect me to react?”
“I don’t know,” he huffs out a laugh like this is some giant joke.
“But why? You’re telling me that you, Wyatt Mitchell, hot-as-fuck baseball player, who could get any girl he possibly could want in the world, hasn’t had sex in five years? Why?”
“I think we both know the answer to that, El.”
“I have a pretty good idea on why, but I still don’t understand it. Does that make you a born-again virgin?” I can’t help but laugh.
What do you mean it’s been five years since he’s been with anyone intimately?
I have to let it sit with me for a moment, because it has me completely baffled. My mind couldn’t wrap around the thought that this man hadn’t been with anyone in so long because they weren’t me.
“But, you told me you’ve been on dates,” I shake my head again. “No second base?”
He shakes his head in response. “I went on a lot of first dates, sure. None of them ever led to a second or a chance for the girl to get in my bed. I didn’t want that. They weren’t you…”
“Who cares if they weren’t me?” I look at him, puzzled. “Why did you even make that choice?”
“There was no use in trying to give a girl my love and affection when all I thought about was you, El.”
Part of me wanted to believe what he was saying. There was also this part of me that thought he was just telling stories.
There was this feeling of confusion that sat in me with that revelation. I couldn’t believe he had waited for me.
What would’ve happened if we never crossed paths again?
All I can do is shake my head in disbelief. “I genuinely don’t know what to say…Why would you wait all this time? What would’ve happened if we never crossed paths again?”
He huffs out a laugh. “Then I guess I would’ve been celibate for the rest of my life.”
I am taken aback. This was definitely not the news I was expecting to hear while lying in bed with him like this. It did make me feel better about myself, though.
“I mean…” I heave a sigh. “I haven’t been with anyone either, if it makes you happy. I’ve made out with guys, but haven’t had sex in a hot minute.”
“So then you get why I don’t want to fuck this up, and I want to take my time with this,” Wyatt locks eyes with me again. “I want to be able to worship you and give you the love you deserve.”
I nod, running my fingers through his hair. “Enough with the sap. Can you just fuck me now?”
“You don’t have to ask me twice, baby.”
His lips are back on mine in an instant. Hungry and wanting to devour every part of me. My hips rock upwards against his, a moan leaving his lips as he feels the friction.
Wyatt breaks the kiss as he leans over to the nightstand. “I wanna do this the right way.”
“I’m on birth control,” I tell him, and he slams the nightstand drawer shut.
