No hello. One of the many things I don't like about Evelyn Sorrell.
"She heard the mirror."
Silence on the line.
"Evelyn."
"I heard you."
"It said her name. Out loud. She heard it."
"That's early."
"No kidding."
"Gage."
"I told you this was coming."
"You told me you felt changes around her."
"My wolf felt them."
"Your wolf notices when Maren buys new shampoo."
I set my teeth. Not wrong. Still not the point.
"The mirror reacted to her. Then a cat showed up."
A pause. Longer than the last one.
"What kind of cat?"
"Black. White crescent on the chest. Gold eyes that look at you like they're taking notes."
She breathes out slowly. Says something under her breath I don't catch.
"Keep him close to her."
"You know what he is."
"I have an idea."
"Then tell me."
"No."
My wolf growls. It comes up my throat before I can stop it.
"Threatening me down a phone line is a waste of both our time," Evelyn says.
"I'm not threatening you."
"You're growling."
"That's my wolf."
"Of course it is."
