“What?” Cold roared, enraged by yet another interruption.
Jules walked in, not deterred by Cold’s obvious fury. “Hey, Boss. It’s time.”
Cold growled, glancing back at Jimmy and taking a deep breath.
Jules waved cheerfully, “Heya, Twig. Glad you’re doin’ okay.”
“Hi, Jules.” Jimmy waved back. “Thank you, by the way. You know, for doing that thing and saving me.”
“Next time, listen to what the fuck I tell you to do.” Jules looked expectantly at Cold. “Gotta go, Boss.”
Eyes glancing up to doubtlessly curse the heavens once more, Cold bit out, “Be right there.”
Jules gave them some privacy, retreating out the door but leaving it open.
Cold dressed himself with a sour sneer, stepping away to allow Jimmy to hop off the desk. He pulled Jimmy in for yet another searing kiss and let it linger. Visibly struggling to break away, he murmured, “To be continued.”
“Definitely,” Jimmy grumbled as he struggled to shove his erection away. He made himself presentable, smiling as Cold adjusted his collar. “Tonight?”
“Yes. I have important business to attend to, but I’ll be home as soon as I can.”
“Okay.” Jimmy eagerly went in for another kiss.
Cold allowed it, and he touched the side of Jimmy’s neck. “Goodbye, Jimmy.”
“Bye.” Jimmy sighed adoringly, watching him leave. He flopped back against the desk with a big dopey smile.
Cold had finally kissed him.
They had kissed, and it had been beautiful and perfect, and Jimmy knew he was head over heels for the gorgeous gangster. They were going to be together now as a real couple. Cold’s estate was going to be their home. He was going to be his boyfriend.
Jimmy almost couldn’t believe it.
He floated downstairs to find Cold and the Gentlemen were all gone—even Rowena. Jerry, chef and racecar driver, was also an amateur pianist, and he was waiting patiently for Jimmy to join him on stage for rehearsal.
They went through the set until Jimmy was exhausted. Jerry allowed a small break before running him through it a few more times because amateur sadist was yet another of Jerry’s many specialties. They stayed until the club was getting ready to open, and Jerry finally agreed to take Jimmy home and cook dinner for him.
After enjoying a delicious meal, Jimmy was delighted to find all of his clothing had been brought to Cold’s room, but he decided to wait before putting anything away. He had a feeling that Cold would be particular about which side of the closet he chose.
He grinned when he saw his shoebox of photographs at the foot of the bed. Inside the shoebox was his mother’s jewelry box as well, and he looked over his little treasures with a smile. He put the box under the bed, took a shower, threw on his robe, and snuggled into bed to wait for Cold.
Time ticked by, and soon, Jimmy dozed off. He snapped awake when he heard doors slamming open and heavy footsteps thundering toward him. He sat up, startled as the lumbering figure of Jules Price came rushing in.
Jules was distraught, his shirt soaked in blood and his eyes wild with anger and fear.
“Jules!” Jimmy bolted to his feet, staring at the blood. It was everywhere, and he tried to keep the room from spinning. “What’s, what’s wrong? The blood…”
“It ain’t mine.” Jules grimaced. “It’s Boss’.”
“Rod.” Jimmy gasped, his heart seizing against his rib cage. “How bad?”
“Well, it sure as fuck ain’t good.”
Chapter twenty-one
Jimmy thought he was going to be sick, his chest crushed by anxiety and fear. “Is he… Is Rod gonna be okay?”
Jules came forward and put his big hands on Jimmy’s shoulders. “The doc is on her way, okay? But we gotta get ready. Lorre and Pym are bringin’ Boss. They were right behind me. You’re gonna help me get all this shit set up.”
