Chapter Eleven

Kassian

“Tell me,” Nix whispers, his voice full of longing and desperation. Now that I know what to look for, I curse myself for ever doubting our feelings for each other. It’s written across his face that he wants me, just as desperately as I’ve always wanted him.

Why the fuck did it take me so long?

The answer is obvious. We were waiting for Dean.

I open my mouth, to confess to Nix all of my feelings. To tell him the depths of my love for him. Before I can manage a single word, there’s a knock on the door.

Just like that, the moment is shattered. I look away, feeling my heart throb painfully in my chest.

“Did you order room service?” Nix asks, standing up off the bed. I follow him.

“Nope. Maybe Mars or Finn forgot something?”

The two of us move over to the door. Nix peeks through the eye hole. He turns towards me, his face splitting into a grin.

“You’ll never in a million years guess who’s here,” he says, his voice filled with excitement.

The dread filling my chest from our moment being ruined suddenly brightens. If Nix is this excited, there’s only one person that comes to mind.

“Bro,” I say, mirroring his grin. “Are you serious?”

“Look for yourself,” he says, taking a step back.

Peeking through the hole, my stomach floods with a million butterflies. Standing outside our door, with a bag in his hands, is Dean.

“Holy shit,” I say before I can stop myself. I watch as Dean smiles at the door.

“Are you guys gonna let me in or just keep looking at me through the peep hole all night?”

I quickly pull the latch away from the door and throw it open. “Dean!”

Dean’s face brightens, his mouth stretching into a wide smile. Before I know what’s really happening, like my body is moving on autopilot, I throw my arms around Dean’s middle, hugging him tight. Thankfully, I’m not the only one moving. At the same time, Nix collides with Dean’s other side, the two of us sandwiching him in the middle.

Dean chuckles softly, dropping his bag so he can wrap his arms around the both of us. The sadness I was feeling just a moment ago at not being able to confess properly to Nix falls away, being replaced with joy. I’m so glad Dean is here. Tonight is the night. Tonight, I’ll tell them both how I feel.

If I need to, I’ll explain what Hazel and I talked about. I’ll tell them that three of us have soul ties, tying our lives together. We’re soulmates and I’m not letting them go, not without a fight.

“I can’t believe you’re here,” Nix murmurs softly. “We missed you so much, Dean.”

Dean’s hands tighten around us for a moment. “You did?”

“Of course we did,” I say right away, looking up at him with a smile. “You missed us too, right?”

“Yeah,” he says softly, “I did. I missed you both a lot.”

I let go of Dean and pick up his bag, dragging him into the room after me. My head is spinning and my heart is thrashing against the inside of my ribs. I’m so happy that it’s overwhelming but at the same time, I feel more nervous than I’ve felt in a really long time.

Why is Dean here? Could it be that Hazel explained the soul ties to him? Is he here because maybe he’s feeling the same sort of tug that Nix and I have been feeling?

Like a blooming flower, hope stirs inside of my chest. I can’t stop grinning as we get Dean’s things settled inside our room. He takes off his shoes and his coat before sitting down on the bed. Nix and I sit on the other bed across from him.

“What are you doing here?”

Dean rubs the back of his neck, looking adorably out of his depth. Ever since I’ve met him, he’s always seemed so unattainable, so untouchable in the way he has his shit together. I think this is the first time, other than when he realized he had magical abilities, he has looked unsure.
