“Laughing to yourself is one of the first signs of insanity, Doc.” A velvety voice says behind me.
I spin.
Callum Fox. Taking up the entire doorframe. I have to tilt my chin all the way up to look at him.
“You may be unfamiliar with the sound of laughter, but some of us are actually funny.”
He raises an eyebrow at me.
“Doc, are you feeling alright? Because I think you just made a joke to me which I’m 99% sure is outside of your strict tutor-tutee rules.”
I roll my eyes. “I can joke around.” Have I really been that boring and serious?
“Yes.”
Shit. Did I say that out loud?
My cheeks are more than a bit warm now, and Callum chuckles, sitting down on my bed.
On my bed. Callum is on my bed.
He’s in a plain black T-shirt, and his arms look delicious. How? When? Does he go to the gym? Does he have time, between the fame and classes? Or is it genetic? Can it be genetic? Maybe I should research this later…
Stop it, Beatrix.
I side-eye him, hoping he doesn’t notice me checking him out, his hair a dark mess he’s pushed back one too many times tonight, and the silver earrings sparkle in the light.
The sight of him sitting on my bed makes my thighs clench together.
I sit myself down and shuffle over to the edge of the bed as far away from him as possible, hoping he doesn’t notice.
“Why’d you come up to your room?”
“Why’d you follow me?” I scowl.
“For once, can we play nice?”
I give in. Only because he has beautiful big blue eyes that look so striking under his thick dark eyebrows. Wow, I know he’s written a lot of songs about girls’ eyes, but damn, his are so freakin—
“Doc, are you staring into my eyes?” He smirks.
I blink. “No.”
“It kinda seemed like you were.” He grins.
“I had a temporary malfunction. Probably due to the alcohol. Happens all the time. It’s an official medical term. Anyway, I was saying, I came up to my room because I wanted a break.”
His eyes trace up my legs; my dress has ridden up slightly from sitting down, so there is more thigh on show than I’d usually be comfortable with. But right now, it feels kinda good to be the one getting stared at by him. Ha! You’re not the only one with delicious body parts.
I’ll allow him his dignity though, and refrain from pointing out his ogling.
“Why’d you need a break?”
I shrug, deciding if I should tell him or not about the frat bro downstairs hitting on me with the worst pick up lines I have ever heard.
“Do you not like parties?” He pushes.
“No, I do. Well, I usually always do. But this guy was hitting on me, and I kept trying to bat him away, but he didn’t get the hint. It’s whatever. I just wanted to get some space.”
