“Good,” Trick replies, as he glances up from his phone. “I’m glad she’s checking in a bit more often now.”

Jensen nods. “I wish they would tell us what the fuck is going on.”

“Me too,” I mutter with a frown.

I am ready to get home even more now than I was, and I’m glad that we’re only staying for a few more extra hours and not days.

Lyric has had her baby, Elijah, Noel and the others are coming home, and Jynx may need us. Not to mention if those guys that Cash and Luc chased off from Zemi’s place turn up and they need us to step in again because, for some reason, they can’t.

That situation is super intriguing, but if they wanted to fill us in properly, then they would have. Like most things when it comes to Zemi and the others, there’s obviously a lot more to the story than we know.

They could say the same about us though.

This island is absolutely stunning, and there's something about it that just makes me want to take a deep breath and relax.

I’m really looking forward to heading into town tomorrow and seeing more of the island and maybe even meeting some of the locals. This is one of the places that I want to explore more than other places we’ve been to. As I said though, I am really glad that we’re only staying for a few extra hours. I want to get back home.

“I’ve found some puppy food,” Rafe says, sounding really confused as he pulls it out of a low cupboard. “It’s still in date.”

“Well, that’s handy,” Luc says as he takes the bag off Rafe, fishes a bowl out of the cupboard, and immediately puts some food down for Wynnie, her whole body starts wagging with her tail as she happily gobbles it down. Luc chuckles, “Well she likes it.”

“At least she’s a good eater,” Rage says with a smile. “It’s weird that there was puppy food here though. Isn’t it?”

“I don’t know. They like to keep these places stocked for every eventuality. Maybe Oberon’s team noticed the puppy was there when they took the photos and figured that there was a chance that we’d take her since the conditions were definitely not great?” Jensen suggests.

“Probably,” Pete agrees. “Only a heartless person would have left her there.”

“Did you guys find anything to eat?” Trick asks as he puts his phone down, having finished updating Mr. R.

Rafe nods. “Yeah, the problem was that there was too much choice. We’re having spicy chicken in a red sauce with pearl couscous and some other bits as well.”

“Oh wow, that sounds delicious,” I compliment, my mouth already watering. “Are you sure you want to do that now though? It’s really late, and that sounds like quite a bit of work.”

Rafe smiles. “It shouldn’t take me too long. Cooking is the way I relax, you know that. I’m in my happy place.”

My smile widens. “I know. I just needed to check.”

Dinner last night was absolutely delicious.

Obviously.

Rafe made it.

He was, of course, critical of it and listing all of the things that he thought could have made it better and how he would change it if he made it again. I decided to distract him in the best way possible.

Naked.

Today he’s on a mission to find some local spice mixes and maybe even a recipe book that he can bring home with us. Everyone has decided to get a souvenir of some kind, and we’re all taking full advantage of the extra time that we’re spending here.

We were all excited enough about today's trip that we were up relatively early and loading up into the cars within an hour or so, which is practically unheard of. Especially since we also made sure to clean the safehouse, write a list of everything that we used so it's easy to replace, and make sure that we packed everything and loaded the cars.

The plan is to head straight from the town to the airport. Mr. R wasn’t able to delay the plane as much as we hoped. He was under the impression that we wouldn’t want to hang around.

Waiting for Lyric to message me this morning so that I could check in on them all was almost torture, but I really didn’t want to message her first and wake them up. When I told her that, when she did message, she told me I was being absolutely ridiculous and to message whenever I wanted to. She said that they all have their phones on silent at the moment anyway, so I won’t disturb any of them.

She then sent me loads of baby pictures.
