I’m not expecting a reply, so when my phone immediately buzzes in my hand, I’m surprised.
Jynx: I won’t, promise. Family first.
That short reply tells me two very important things. First, and most importantly, she’s alive. Because of the kind of work that we do, that is always a concern of mine.
The tension immediately leaves me.
The second thing it tells me is that she’s in the middle of something, and most likely something dangerous, or she would have messaged me back with something more detailed.
“You ready to go, Sunshine?” Riot asks me from the door.
I nod, “Yep, I was just checking in with everyone to make sure that they’re all good. They are, by the way, and Jynx even messaged back. It was only a few words, but I’m happier now.”
Riot pulls me close and kisses me before we head down the stairs and then out to the cars to meet the others.
“Good. I’m glad that she’s replied. I was getting worried about them,” Riot replies.
Chapter Six
Ever
“Who?” Jensen asks curiously as I take a seat in the car.
“Jynx and the guys. Jynx replied to a message, so she’s alive, and she hasn’t called for help. She promised me that she would if she needs to though,” I reply. I quickly explain exactly what she said, which obviously doesn’t take very long because she only said a few words.
“I was getting really worried about them all,” Rage says.
“We all were,” Trick adds as we pull out of the garage and head to Zemi’s.
“Have any of you heard from the guys?” I ask.
“Nope,” Jensen replies with a frown.
He’s usually in almost constant contact with Ace.
I frown. “If I knew where she was, then I would have probably said fuck it by now and gone out to see if she’s okay. Although then I could possibly put my foot in something and cause issues, so maybe not.”
Rage reaches over and grasps my knee. “She will let us know if she needs us. Don’t forget that she isn’t alone wherever she is. If she’s with D, or doing something for D, then she’s got him and his whole organization behind her, and if she’s not, she has the Ravens and the conspiracy team, which we know is her second in command.”
“Rage is right,” Trick says from the driver's seat. “She has more backup than anyone could possibly need.”
“You’re right. I know you are, I just worry.”
“We all do,” Jensen replies. “Let’s enjoy spending some time with Zemi and the guys. Raid should be happier now since he’s gotten his cast off.”
“Oh yeah,” I smile. “He was driving everyone insane.”
“We know,” Rage chuckles. “Saint was giving me almost hourly updates at one point.”
“I told her to flash him,” I smirk.
The guys burst out laughing, they’re all more than aware of why I told her to do that. It’s my go-to, and it’s got me out of and into all sorts of trouble.
“Well, we didn’t hear about that, so either she didn’t do it, or she did, and they didn’t want to say anything,” Trick points out when they’ve stopped laughing.
Jensen smirks, “We would have heard about it. I think judging from all the conversations that we’ve had with them that involve Zemi, they definitely would have asked what it meant.”
“Wait, they’re that unsure?” I ask with surprise.
