Sal.

Jekyll nodded. “Cypher’s got the numbers.”

Oz lowered his chin.

They walked out of the building. Imogene was probably thirty minutes closer to Killcreek than him. Or so he thought. Hyde sidled up next to him.

“I had Ghost take her to Penny’s. Thought the closer she was, the quicker you could get to her.”

Perfect!

“What the fuck were you thinking back there?” Ace snapped at Gent, who laughed. “You got some kind of death wish, don’t you?”

Gent scoffed. “Someone threatens Cherry, I’m gonna say something. It’s a redhead thing in solidarity; you wouldn’t get it.”

Cherry.

Jekyll ground his teeth and balled his fist. That fucking nickname.

I’m gonna let it slide this time.

Chapter Twenty-Five

The last hour had been a bit of a blur. Ghost hadn’t taken her far when they left the club. It was only a fifteen-minute ride. She didn’t recognize the house when he pulled into the driveway and parked. It was cute with a little front porch and lots of flowers lining the walkway.

Ghost shut down the engine and turned his head but didn’t say anything. Imogene knew he was waiting for her to get off.

“Where are we?”

“A friend’s place.” He tapped her knee. “You ready?”

Imogene got off the bike, took off her helmet, and blindly handed it to Ghost as she peered down the street. The neighborhood looked a lot like the ones near her condo back home. A quiet, warm, and welcoming road lined with similar houses, though each had something unique separating them from each other.

“Come on.”

She followed Ghost up the stairs, glancing over the porch. At the far end was a double swing with polka dot cushions and a bright pink throw pillow. This was not at all what she would expect from a friend of the MC.

When the door opened, Ghost was standing in front of her, blocking her view.

“It’s about time. Was thinking you got lost.”

Ghost snorted. “Maybe that’s a sign you need to invite me over more.”

There was a stretch of silence. “No, I don’t think it is.”

She heard Ghost’s faint chuckle as he walked in. The woman slapped his back then turned to Imogene, who was standing in the doorway. Her gaze softened and she reached for Imogene’s wrist.

“Hey Imogene.”

“Hi Penny.”

“Come on in.” Her tone was warm, completely unlike how she spoke to Ghost.

Penny walked her into the living room, took her jacket, and sat her down on the couch. That had been thirty minutes ago. In the meantime, she’d been offered a drink, use of the bathroom, and food. Imogene declined them all and remained silent.

Listening to Penny and Ghost’s banter was a nice distraction, and she tried her best to focus on that. She didn’t join in though. She feared saying anything might trigger the night and have her breaking down. Jekyll’s voice played over in her mind. You wanna be right, or you want the truth? Her eyes welled, and she sucked in a breath, staring at the bookshelf in the corner of the room. Anything to take her mind off the night.

“You guys hungry?” Penny asked.
