“A little.”
“And?”
“And what do you want me to say? We've exchanged a few messages. He seems nice.”
“Okay.” She nods, seemingly chastised.
I finish my mascara and put it down before I accidentally poke myself in the eye. I need to set a boundary with Nadia now, because I just know she'll bring up Wyatt again if I don't.
“I'm going on a date with Adam tonight,” I remind her, emphasizing his name.
“I know. And I hope you have a great time.”
She says it so sincerely that I turn around to look at her.
“What?”
“Nothing. I'm allowed to want you to have a good date.”
“Since when?”
“Since always, you ungrateful bitch.”
I laugh, and she gets up to inspect my makeup.
“There. You look gorgeous. Now stop touching your face.”
Her phone buzzes on the bed. She picks it up, reads the message, and groans. “Fuck. My editor needs me to redo the sheet pan dinner article.”
“Again?”
“Apparently, it needs more personality.”
“It's chicken and vegetables.”
“Thank you! That's what I've been saying.” She grabs her purse, then remembers the bottle of wine and takes it with her. “I swear, if I have to describe another potato as ‘perfectly crispy,’ I'm quitting.”
She pulls me into a warm hug. “Have fun tonight, okay?”
“I will.”
“And text me afterward. I want details.”
“Of course.”
She steps back and gives me one last look.
“And Quinn?”
“What?”
“If you don't like Adam, you don't have to go on a second date just because your dad likes him.”
“I know.”
“Good.” She kisses my cheek. “Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
