“Get a room,” Jordan calls.
Wyatt lifts one hand behind my back and gives him the finger, which only makes Jordan laugh before the Uber finally drives off.
“Very mature,” I murmur when Wyatt lets me breathe.
“Worked, didn’t it?”
Pickles barks impatiently from beside us.
Wyatt looks down at him. “You already had your turn.”
Pickles clearly disagrees, but Wyatt grabs his duffel, takes my hand, and finally leads the three of us into the building and up to his apartment.
I’m halfway through unclipping Pickles’s leash when I feel Wyatt looking at me. I straighten, letting Pickles loose. He immediately trots toward his water bowl like he’s the one who’s had an exhausting road trip.
“I missed you,” I admit.
He steps closer, and my stomach does that stupid little flip it still does whenever all of his attention lands on me. “I missed you too.”
His hands settle on my hips.
“Actually, I missed you a fucking lot.”
He keeps looking at me with an expression I can’t quite read. “You know, I’ve been thinking.”
His thumbs move absently against my sides. “And I think this is long overdue. I want you to be my girlfriend.”
I blink. Of all the things I expected him to say, that wasn’t one of them.
“I don't want to keep calling this dating or hanging out or whatever the fuck we're pretending it is. I want you.”
My heart gives one hard thump.
“Exclusively,” he adds. “In case that part wasn't obvious.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Because I haven't been interested in anyone else since I kissed you on that Ferris wheel.”
I smile, and he smiles back.
“So?” he asks.
I know my answer, but I want to savor this moment a second longer.
Then I slide my arms around his neck. “Yes.”
His eyebrows lift. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. I’ll be your girlfriend.”
The smile that breaks across his face is ridiculous. “Fuck yes.”
Before I can laugh, his mouth is on mine.
I kiss him back, smiling against his lips when he pulls me closer.
Pickles barks from somewhere behind us.
