For future reference: I will always say yes to you, Randa.
Always?
Mostly always. Unless it puts you at risk or involves you dating another man.
Randa gave another laugh. I can barely handle the man I’ve got.
You were handling me just fine when we kissed.
Randa stopped typing.
Kahn mentally cursed. Had he said the wrong thing, again? He should have reigned in his own desires and…
His phone rang. Kahn blinked and then quickly answered, as Randa’s name popped up requesting a video call. “Hey, sweetheart.” He turned the volume down so the phone didn’t echo.
“Hey.” She whispered back. Inside her fortress of blankets, the camera showed her flushed face. She looked so angelic it broke his newly-found heart.
“I’m going to improve your camera. I still have some lenses created by the Dust Phases, before the Fall.” Nothing could beat the quality of their craftsmanship. “I always want to see you as clearly as possible.” Fixing up her phone was quickly turning into his favorite hobby. “How do you feel about hologram projections?”
“Whatever you want to do is fine.” She answered distractedly, her mind on something else. “So, um…” She licked her lower lip nervously. “Before? I was thinking about more than just self-defense and the memory-sharing.”
Kahn pretended to be surprised. “Like what?”
“Like… I only feel lust when I’m with you. Did I tell you that?”
Oh yeah. He vividly recalled that news. It was hard to forget a miracle. “I’m your Match. It’s right that you should lust after me.”
Fate and biology drew them closer and closer together. It was perfect. It was everything he’d ever dreamed of. He might literally die if they didn’t Phaze soon, but that was a small price to pay for having her in his life.
“I kind of like feeling lust?” It sounded like a question. Like she was gauging his reaction. Like she was concerned he wouldn’t reciprocate.
He was eager to put those worries to rest. “I feel lust with you, too. And I absolutely like it. You are the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen. More importantly, you are you. And I have been infatuated with you since the first moment we met. I just struggled to deal with it. Emotions are not my best subject. Give me time and I’ll learn the sensitive parts of this relationship.”
Randa shined a smile that had all his blood rushing south. “Okay. If you give me time for the touching parts. We can support each other with this work, too.”
God, she was going to kill him. “You don’t need to push yourself to touch me. Not ever. I’m serious, Randa.”
“No one is pushing. I just feel… open-minded?... about Phazing in the near future. I want it. I think you want it, too. And I know our energies both want it.”
His powers were screaming for her every second of the day. He wasn’t going to tell her that either, though. It was getting easier to not always say the wrong thing. He just had to think before he opened his mouth. Someone should have told him that trick years ago!
“I am happy just being with you, sweetheart. We have all the time in the world for you to feel comfortable with more.”
“I’m not saying we’ll definitely Phaze soon. I can’t promise that. But I’m ready to start working on it. Tonight. If you’re up for it.”
“Working on… Phazing?” Yes, he was up for that. So, so up.
“Practicing Phazing. It’ll take me a couple tries to get there, I think.”
“We can do whatever you want. Anything, at all.” She wanted to practice? What did that mean? Kahn tried to focus. It was hard. So was he. Up and hard. Shit! He needed to stop thinking about his dick and reassure her. “You set the pace. Just tell me what you need.”
“Well,” she chewed on her lower lip and he nearly groaned at the sight, “it would help if you went first. Alone.”
“Alone?” His mind felt sluggish. All he could do was watch her perfect mouth.
“That way I could figure out the best… um… physical logistics, without any…” She trailed off with an impatient puff of breath, hunting for words. “Without any triggering risks.”
“Logistics?” Kahn’s conversational skills had deteriorated to the point where he was now just repeating random words. “Of Phazing?” They were still talking about Phazing, right? His concentration was shot. It was her fault for being so dazzling.
