Fionn’s fingers turn the glass once against the table. “Want to find out how it feels to fight under me, Sera?”
“Christ.” Eilish looks between us. “Are you sure you two hate each other? Because from here, it sounds like you’re one insult away from fucking.”
A voice cuts across my shoulder before I can answer.
“Well, look at this. A Tallon out without her brothers.”
I turn my head and find two men next to our table, both flushed with booze.
One tall, one broader, both stupid enough to look at Fionn once and dismiss him because of the baseball cap, the plain sweats, and nothing about him says Harrington heir unless you know where to look.
“Cormac is still in hospital,” the tall one says.
I sigh. “What makes you think I care?”
The broad one laughs. “Mouth on her.”
“Aye,” the tall one says, stepping closer. “Her brothers aren’t around to fight her battles tonight.”
I swivel in the seat. “You’re ruining my view, lads. How about ya go visit your scumbag pal in the hospital.”
The tall one grins. “That’s fighting talk, Tallon. C’mon then, get to yer feet. Let’s see who ends up in the ER tonight.”
I push back my chair and stand. “If you’re gonna fight a woman, better make sure ya win.”
“C’mon then, bitch,” the broad one says, already reaching inside his jacket.
When he pulls out a flick knife, Fionn stands, pulls off the cap, and sets it on the table.
Recognition hits both men at once.
The tall one’s face empties of color.
Fionn kills the distance between them while they stand there frozen.
“Harrington… We didn’t know you’d be drinking with a Tallon.”
Fionn's hand closes around the tall one’s throat, and he drives him back into the nearest table.
“You say that like I need your permission to drink with Sera.” Fionn says, low and controlled. “I don’t.”
Everyone in the pub turns toward us. And that’s when I notice his security detail.
They move, stepping in from three different points around the pub, plainclothes and hard-eyed, crossing the room by degrees while Fionn keeps his hand around the man’s throat.
Fionn leans in closer. “The only man who fights with her is me. So, don’t ever approach her again, or Cormac won't be the only one in the hospital with hammer-smashed hands.”
My breath stutters, and a tingle runs the length of my spine. How did Fionn know Cormac’s bones were broken with hammers?
Fionn releases him with a shove. “Now fuck off.”
Eilish comes up behind me as the men scramble toward the exit and puts her mouth beside my ear. “What the hell is going on between you and Fionn?”
I turn and grip her wrist.
“We had sex,” I whisper. “Once.”
Eilish’s eyes widen before her attention shifts over my shoulder. Fionn’s reflection appears in the darkened window beside us.
