"No."
"We need the others."
I look toward the clock. Two forty-three. "No."
"Eirea."
"Absolutely not."
"You're awake."
"Because you're a terrible person."
"Rhyven will want to know." Damn her. "Caelen too."
Worse. "And Cassian."
I stare. "Cassian will kill us."
"He can try."
Two minutes later, we're in the corridor. Room Three-Zero-Five is directly across from ours. I look at the door. Nyra looks at me. "You knock."
"Why me?"
"Caelen is your brother."
"Exactly why you should." She knocks. Coward. Nothing. Nyra knocks again. Movement. Something hits something inside. Then— "If the Academy isn't burning, fuck off." Caelen. Definitely. I lean toward the door. "It's me." Silence. Then— "That's worse."
I smile. The door opens. Caelen stands there wearing loose trousers and absolutely no patience. His hair is destroyed. I have never seen it like that. This alone almost makes waking him worthwhile. He squints at us. "Someone dead?"
"No."
"Missing?"
"No."
"Attack?"
"No."
He starts closing the door. Nyra puts her hand against it. "We found something."
Caelen's eyes close. "I hate all of you."
"Mutual."
Behind him, movement. My eyes shift. Rhyven is sitting on the edge of the second bed. And— Shit. Right. Apparently Rhyven sleeps without a shirt. Useful information. Completely irrelevant. My eyes betray me for approximately one second. Maybe two. Dark hair falling over his forehead. Tattooed shoulders. Ink running over his chest and down his arms. Muscle shifting as he reaches for the shirt beside him. Golden eyes lift. Meet mine. Fuck. One eyebrow rises. I immediately look at Caelen.
"Nyra found something."
Behind him, Rhyven stands. "What." His voice is recked from sleep. Gods help me.
Five minutes later, we're downstairs in the Response Wing common room. Rhyven has put on a shirt. Good. Helpful. Cassian has been retrieved from his room. He is wrapped in a blanket. He looks like death. "If this is about a bibliography," he says, "I will kill every person in this room."
Nyra puts the first record in front of him. "Read."
"I can't see."
