Rhyven keeps walking. "Yes."
"Across from mine."
"Apparently."
"Caelen seems thrilled."
"No."
I smile. "Do you know why?"
He looks at me. Perfectly calm. "No."
I stare. "You're such a liar."
"Prove it." There. That little spark. Even tonight. Even after Theryn. It makes something ache pleasantly beneath the exhaustion. Then his expression changes again. Serious. "How do you feel?" The question surprises me.
"About?"
"Blood Echo." Oh. Not us. Right.
"Fine."
"Headache?"
"No."
"Nausea?"
"No."
"Residual emotion?" I think of Theryn. Protect. Eddy.
Run. Love.
"Hers."
Rhyven's jaw tightens. "What."
"Her need to protect him." I swallow. "It's still there a little."
He looks away. "That normal?"
"Sometimes."
"How long?"
"Hours."
"Tell Vayne if it stays."
"I know."
We reach the intersection. My current residence is left. His quarters right. We stop. For one second, last night tries to enter the space between us again. Not fully. Enough.
"Rhyven."
"What."
