Nyra doesn't look up. "No."

"Tragic."

Professor Neris places three new reports beside Aelindra's file. "Western Marker Twelve continues to show localized depletion."

"How localized?" I ask.

"Less than two meters."

Nyra's quill moves. "Duration?"

"Residual effect declining."

"Rate?"

"Approximately six percent since midnight."

More writing.

Cassian leans toward me. "I've started understanding why she has no hobbies."

Nyra continues writing. "I heard that."

"Good."

Professor Vayne places a crystal instrument beside the report. "The residue itself remains active."

"Still taking magic?" Cassian asks.

"Still reducing measurable output within proximity."

Nyra looks toward Neris. "So we check the other sites."

"Already underway."

"Anything?"

"Not yet."

My stomach drops slightly. Then Professor Neris adds, "Which doesn't mean there was nothing." Nyra looks up. Professor Vayne taps Aelindra's report.

"Her staff was magically active when she disappeared."

"Because she's a Keeper." Caelen says.

"Exactly." Vayne turns toward the others.

"Jonas?"

"No active magical object recovered."

"Elara?"

"None."

"Lysa?"

Caelen considers. "Patrol weapon. Standard steel."
