"When you're moving from one place to another, you're thinking about where you're going."
"Not what you're leaving." Cassian adds.
"Or who's watching." Nyra writes. "Routine creates blind spots." Silence. That feels important.
I pull Lysa's patrol report closer. "She vanished because her partner looked at the ward marker."
"Maybe."
"Mara's coworker probably wasn't watching the pantry door constantly."
"Probably."
"Elara's family expected her home."
"But no one was with her."
Cassian taps Jonas's name. "And we have no idea what happened here." Annoying. One gap. One missing piece.
Nyra leans back. "We need the last person who spoke to Jonas."
"I saw him."
"Not spoke."
"I said goodnight."
"Exactly."
"That doesn't count?"
"It counts." She taps the report. "But I want whoever interacted with him after."
Cassian stands. "I can find out."
I look at him. "How?"
He smiles. "There are benefits to knowing everyone."
Nyra sighs. "Finally useful."
He puts a hand over his heart. "That hurts." But he leaves.
Professor Neris arrives twenty minutes later. Nyra shows her the route theory. Neris reads silently. Then again. "Movement." She says.
"Possibly." Nyra answers. "Not confirmed."
"Good." Neris points toward the map. "Have the Chiefs seen this?"
"Not yet."
"I'll take it." Nyra hesitates. Professor Neris notices. "Copies only." Nyra relaxes. A little.
"What happens tomorrow?" I ask.
Neris's expression changes. "Everything we can justify."
"Meaning?"
