Silence was the currency of my captivity.
My jaw clenched, and anger pulsed through my veins. Mario’s downfall would be that he’d caged a predator in his quest to own something dangerous wrapped up in a pretty package. He’d brought me into Los Muertos and allowed me to prosper, giving me a place to live in the shadows and hunt. Somewhere to feed the bloodlust that called to me when I watched the guilty slip through the cracks. Arrogant of him to think I would never realize my strings were held by one such guilty party.
Muñeca. I was no longer his doll. Now I was coming to reap the souls of guilty men and revel in the blood I spilled.
The crunch of gravel felt deafening in the silent parking lot.
“Hopefully, you make it back to your owner,” I mumbled, tossing the keys to the stolen bike into one of the worn leather saddlebags.
The Skeletons apparently never feared their rides would be stolen from the compound. Then again, you would have to be a psycho to attempt that. Or desperate. But with a full-face helmet hiding my identity, the prospect at the gate didn’t bat an eye. Or, since the prospect manning the gate was that bitch-ass kid Roy, Mario probably told him to let me through.
The arched entrance loomed in front of me, dark and dead.
“How poetic.” A sigh left my lips. “Ironically, this is exactly what Gunner told me not to do. No point trying to hide my arrival,” I mumbled as I shrugged out of my jacket. I was going to need room to move.
Mario knew I would come. He’d dangled the one of the few things I would drop everything for. This was what I got for letting him know about her. Being close to me brought danger and heartache. My heart clenched at that thought.
“Time to take out some assholes,” I said as my fingers wrapped around the grip of my Sig.
No one ever believed a woman could be bloodthirsty. And all of Mario’s stupid Armandos were so damn misogynistic that they never bothered looking at a woman as a threat. Too bad they wouldn’t be alive long enough to correct their mistakes.
“Armando,” I called out to the asshole manning the door.
The moment he turned his body, I put two in his chest. The smell of gunpowder was like an aphrodisiac to my revenge-filled mind. Stepping over the fallen body, I raised an eyebrow at the dying piece of garbage.
“Having a good night? It would’ve been nice if your boss informed you that I was a crazy bitch, huh?”
There was no response other than the blood trickling from the corner of his lips and a gurgling noise sounding from his chest.
“I saw you in that picture. You were holding the restraints of that woman. Tell El Diablo I’ll see him soon,” I spat before moving farther into the club.
I put bullets in three more guilty men, painting the walls with their blood, before a small army met me in the pit where the main stage was housed.
“So nice of you all to gather in one spot for me. Although, I truly love the hunt, so if your cowardly asses decide to run…I’ll gladly come to find you,” I called out, wanting every one of them to hear the truth of my words.
My sinister grin only widened as Mario’s men shuffled uncomfortably.
I wouldn’t be able to pick any more of them off. They were too jumpy. I couldn’t afford to get injured or die before freeing Nikki. But I committed each of their faces to memory, promising to take out as many of these motherfuckers as I could before breathing my last breath. A wave of grief hit me at the thought of likely never seeing Gunner again. I closed my eyes, trying to block out the pain.
I couldn’t afford weakness. Nikki couldn’t afford for me to be weak.
I locked my feelings down, embracing the cold killer that lurked just below the surface.
Nikki’s ass better be smart enough to get herself to Gunner and Dex after I got her free. I was sure the Skeletons would keep her and my other girls safe. Because despite referring to Lolli as a club whore, the club girls were well taken care of. Consent was something the Skeletons of Society took very seriously. It’s why I thought Sergio wanted to partner with them to begin with. Now I didn’t know what to think.
“Muñeca, stop taunting my men.”
His voice caused my gut to clench, a million different emotions flashing through me. Mario came forward from behind the wall of expendable bodies. My knuckles went white as the grip on my gun tightened. He dragged Nikki by her hair, and it took every ounce of restraint I had to keep my arms down by my sides. I’d have to use all my skills to get Nikki out of here as unscathed as possible.
Damn, it would have been nice to have Scar here. If my theory on her was right, that bitch would’ve already picked off every asshole in this room.
I was more brute force, whereas Scar was finesse.
Blue eyes met mine; not a tear was in sight. Instead, Nikki had a murderous look painted on her face like a bloody warrior goddess. My chest swelled with pride.
“Muñeca. Good to see you can still follow instructions. Although, I think it was unnecessary to shoot four of my men. No need for a temper tantrum,” he tsked, not an ounce of sorrow in his voice for the fallen.
The fucker was delusional. I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly, refusing to rise to the bait.
