“Still. He doesn't need that kind of pressure yet.”
Even though he will be my future husband if he ever gets his ass back here.
She laughs.
I head toward the door.
My hand is on the handle when she calls after me. “Callie?”
I turn.
“I hope he finds you.”
My throat tightens. I smile.
“Me too.”
That night, I climb into bed and reach for my phone.
I open Instagram. James has watched every Story.
I stare at his username.
“You're persistent. I'll give you that.”
I tap the plus sign to add another Story…then stop.
A slow smile spreads across my face.
Okay, James. Let's see if you're paying attention.
I take a picture of the book lying beside me.
Then I type on the screen: Sometimes you have to stop chasing things and let them come to you.
I stare at it.
It's meant for Roman. A man who probably won't ever see it.
But maybe I need to see it.
I post the Story.
Then I set my phone on the nightstand and turn off the light.
I make it four minutes before grabbing my phone again.
I suck in a breath. James has already seen it.
“Goodnight, James.”
I put my phone down.
This time, I leave it there.
