I thought she’d be pissed.
“You’re not mad?”
“That you stalked me? Pfff.” She waves her hand. “I’m just glad you were as obsessed with me as I was with you.”
I laugh.
So does she.
Which just makes me laugh harder.
When I finally stop laughing, I pluck the burner from her hand and set it on the coffee table.
Then I cup her face. “You are something else, Chaos. There’s no one in the world like you.”
She beams at me. “I know.” She wraps her arms around my neck even though I scowl at her.
“And I can’t wait to be Callie McConnell.”
“I haven’t asked yet.”
“You will. Stalker.”
Then her lips press against mine.
EPILOGUE: ROMAN
A year ago, I woke up in this house with stitches in my side, no idea where the fuck I was, and a blonde woman wearing a cat costume watching me.
Tonight, I live here.
Somewhere along the way, I gave up the rental and moved into the house I once couldn’t wait to escape.
I'm still not entirely sure how the fuck that happened.
I stand in the kitchen and look around. The same black lanterns sit on the counters. The same matte black pumpkins are everywhere. Fake cobwebs stretch across the mirror in the hallway. A garland of bats hangs over the doorway. And the six-foot skeleton wearing an orange scarf is sitting at the kitchen table because apparently this year he needed somewhere to eat.
His name is Kevin now.
I don't know why. I don't ask questions anymore. I've learned.
A year ago, I noticed every exit in this house. Every window. Every possible weapon.
Tonight, I notice the half-empty mug of hot chocolate beside Callie's laptop. Her shoes kicked under the table. The dog toy I almost stepped on when I walked into the kitchen. The stack of packages by the front door she swears she's going to open. The black cat ears sitting on the counter. My coffee beside hers. My keys in the bowl by the door. My jacket hanging beside hers.
Our shit is everywhere.
Alibi is stretched across the couch on his back with all four legs in the air, completely fucking useless. He opens one eye when I walk past.
“Don't get up.”
His eye closes.
Good talk.
My truck is in the garage beside Callie's SUV.
My clothes take up half the closet upstairs.
