I smile.

Roman immediately looks suspicious. “What?”

“I just realized something.”

His eyes narrow. “That expression never ends well for me.”

I scratch behind Alibi's ear. “I just learned our last name is going to be McConnell.”

Roman stares at me.

Violet's mouth drops open.

Drew closes his eyes and mutters something.

Ivy gasps.

Sebastian whispers, “Holy shit.”

Gracie makes a strangled noise.

Presley clamps both hands over her mouth.

Hades looks at Roman.

Beck slowly starts grinning.

Smoke says, “What the fuck?”

I keep looking at Roman.

His mouth twitches.

Then he laughs.

Not the quiet huff I've managed to drag out of him.

A real laugh.

Deep. Warm. Completely unguarded.

It changes his whole face.

Everyone goes quiet again.

Because apparently none of them have heard it either.

I stare at him.

God, I love that sound.

Roman shakes his head.

Then he leans over me, being careful not to disturb Alibi. Or my shoulder. Or every bruised, injured piece of me.
