“Whatever weird murdery alpha thing you're doing, stop.”
Presley snorts.
Hades's mouth twitches.
Roman says, “I wasn't doing anything.”
“You were doing it with your face.”
“I was not.”
“Whatever.”
The door opens. This time Bishop walks in.
Everyone goes quiet. He has that effect on people.
I perk up. “Bishop.”
Roman mutters, “Jesus Christ.”
Bishop looks at me, then around the room. “This is excessive.”
“I have friends.”
“I can see that.”
Roman stands. “What’s the latest?”
The room changes.
So does Bishop. “Mercer's confirmed dead.”
“I gathered that,” I say.
Roman looks at me.
I shrug, then wince. “I was there.”
Bishop continues like I didn't speak. “We recovered his phone, vehicle, weapon, and several other devices. His people are already scattering.”
“What about Smoke?” I ask.
“He's clear for now.”
“For now?”
“The flash drive is still missing.”
I sit up a little straighter.
Roman immediately puts a hand on my shoulder. “Don't.”
“I barely moved.”
“You moved.”
Bishop watches us. I catch the smallest change in his expression.
