Callie finally looks at him.
Her gaze travels over him, then back to me. “Who's that?”
“Bishop.”
Her eyes widen. “Bishop?”
“Yes.”
“Your boss, Bishop?”
“This really isn't the time.”
“I've been wanting to meet him.”
Of course she has.
Bishop looks at me.
I shrug.
“You're the one from the phone.”
His gaze moves to her, then back to me.
I close my eyes.
Mercer groans behind her.
Callie turns.
His hand moves toward his gun again.
I grab Callie and pull her behind me.
Mercer's fingers close around the weapon.
I fire one shot.
This time he doesn't move.
Silence fills the woods.
Callie stands behind me.
My gun stays trained on Mercer.
Bishop approaches carefully. Checks him. Then looks at me. “Dead.”
Callie goes completely still.
I lower the gun.
She saw me kill him.
I turn and look at her pale face.
Her eyes move from Mercer to the gun in my hand.
