Beck laughs.

“Mapquest first.”

“No.”

“Fine. Hot Lips first.”

“No,” Roman says.

“Okay. So they're both embarrassing.”

Neither answers.

Oh, this is better than I thought.

“Fine. Let’s go back to Mapquest.”

Beck sighs. “It's not what you think.”

I look at him. “You get lost?”

“No.”

Roman snorts. “He gives directions.”

I wait.

Roman's jaw tightens.

“That's it?”

“No, Chaos. He doesn't tell you to turn left at the light. He tells you to turn left at the light where a gas station used to be before it burned down in 2009.”

Beck frowns. “It didn't burn down. They tore it down.”

Roman slowly turns his head toward him. “See?”

I bite my lip.

Beck points at him. “And it wasn't 2009. It was probably 2012.”

“I don't fucking care.”

A laugh escapes me.

“It gets worse,” Roman says.

“It does not.”

“Tell her how you gave me directions to Bishop's place.”

Beck's eyes narrow. “Those directions were perfectly clear.”

Roman looks at me. “He told me to turn onto some fucking road, drive past a house that used to belong to a woman who'd been dead for fifteen years—”

“Her grandson owns it now.”

Roman closes his eyes.
