“Pack a bag.”
Callie's smile disappears. “What?”
“Clothes. Whatever you need for a few days.”
Her eyebrows pull together. “Why?”
“And whatever Alibi needs.”
“Why?”
“You're staying with me.”
For approximately two seconds, Callie looks delighted. “I am?”
“Yes.”
The delight disappears. “That's adorable.”
“It wasn't meant to be.”
“No, the part where you think you get to decide that.”
I exhale slowly. “Callie.”
“No.”
“You don't even know what I'm going to say.”
“You just told me to pack a bag and announced where I'm staying. I have a pretty solid grasp of the situation.”

Violet quietly sits there.
Smart woman.
Callie folds her arms. “Oh, it absolutely fucking is.”
“Mercer saw you.”
“I know.”
“You don't know what that means.”
“Because you won't tell me.”
My jaw tightens. “Until I know what he saw and what he knows, I want you somewhere secure.”
“And your house is secure?”
