I lift the cheese and take another bite.

Roman watches me.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

But the way he's looking at me says otherwise.

She takes another bite of my cheese and slowly chews. Like I didn't just tell her Hollow Creek is temporary. Like the words didn't put something in her eyes I don't want to examine too closely.

So I don't.

Instead, I look at the woman handcuffed to my refrigerator.

Which isn't any fucking better.

Callie sits on my kitchen floor with one knee bent, hat cockeyed, blonde hair falling over her shoulder, wearing an expression that says she's trying very hard not to care about something she absolutely cares about.

And she’s holding my cheddar.

I'm wearing only a towel.

It's after two in the morning.

I haven't slept in almost twenty-four hours.

There's a dangerous man in Hollow Creek looking for another man named Smoke.

I spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out who the fuck he is and came up with almost nothing.

And the woman I've been trying to avoid broke into my house. And is now handcuffed to an appliance. Eating my cheese.

This might be the strangest fucking night of my life. Which is saying something. I've killed people in hotel bathrooms while they were on the shitter.

“Are you going to keep staring at me?”

My gaze drops to her mouth. She's still chewing.

“Yes.”

Her eyebrows lift. Slowly, she lowers the cheese. “Oh.”

Fuck.

I should put clothes on. Uncuff her. Put her in her car. Watch her drive away. Lock every fucking door behind her.

Instead, I walk toward her.

Her eyes widen slightly.

I stop in front of her.

She tilts her head to look up at me. Her breath hitches.
