I stare at her, not sure what the hell to tackle first. “First, how did you follow me without me seeing you? And second, why are you asking about your hair?”
“You almost saw me.” She looks pleased with herself. “I had to hide in an alley.”
“An alley.”
“Yes.”
“What alley?”
“I don't know.”
“You don't know what alley you drove into?”
“I was under pressure.”
My eyes narrow. “What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
She’s avoiding eye contact.
“Chaos.”
“It may have been one-way.”
“May have been?”
“In the opposite direction.”
I stare at her.
“But I didn't continue driving the wrong way,” she whispers.
“That's supposed to make it better?”
“I backed out.”
Jesus fucking Christ.
“With my hair down, do I draw too much attention to you?”
I look through the windshield at Mercer’s house. It’s still quiet.
I need to get Chaos the fuck out of here. Now.
“Yes. Now go home.”
“I can pull it up.” She pulls a hair tie from her wrist and starts twisting it around her hair.
My jaw tightens. “Callie. That won’t help.”
She pulls her hands free. “It’s up now. That’ll help.”
“No. Now leave.”
“But I just got here.”
“You shouldn't be here at all.”
