Goddamn Mapquest and his loose lips. He must’ve told Bishop about the rental but left out where it was.
“I know what the fuck I'm in.”
“Then I don't see the problem.”
Of course he doesn't.
Before Callie, it wouldn't have been. Hollow Creek was just another location. Another town. Another job.
Now I know which coffee shop Chaos goes to. Which gym she joined because she was looking for me. Where she lives.
I know there's a twenty-something-pound dog named Alibi currently sleeping somewhere in Callie's house because she found him hurt and couldn't leave him behind.
Too many connections. Too many people. Too many ways for something to go wrong.
“Who is he?”
“I'll send the file.”
“Tell me now.”
Bishop exhales. “Gavin Mercer.”
The name doesn't mean anything.
“Who is he?”
“Fixer. Enforcer. Depends who's paying him.”
“For?”
“People you don't want to meet.”
“Specific.”
“He spent the last several years working for an organization moving money, weapons, and information. He's suspected of killing at least six people. Probably more.”
My jaw tightens. “Why Hollow Creek?”
“We don't know yet.”
“That bothers me.”
“Why?”
I ignore the question.
Before Callie, I wouldn't have cared that someone that dangerous was in Hollow Creek.
Now I do.
Because it's Chaos's town.
I stare through the glass. “What's he doing here?”
“Looking for someone.”
I tense. “Who?”
