“What?”
I look at Violet. “You’re right, though. His pants are quite bloody. We should probably take them—”
“No!” He struggles to sit up, holding his hand protectively over the zipper of his pants. “You will not be taking my pants off.”
“Oh, damn. I was hoping to see if you had an anaconda in them.”
Violet snorts out a laugh and turns away.
“An anaconda?” He rolls his eyes. “Jesus Christ.”
“So inappropriate,” Violet says.
“What are you still doing here, Violet? I told you to leave.”
A light tapping sounds, then the door opens. Drew walks in carefully, like he thinks zombies are about to attack him. Or a rake.
“Poison Ivy!” I grin. “What’s up?”
He scowls. “Stop calling me that.”
“Rake victim—”
“No,” he blurts out. “I didn’t come over to be called names. I’m just here to see what you roped Violet into.”
“Both of you can leave.”
“Me too,” the hot hitman says. He shoots to his feet and stumbles.
I grab his arm and lower him back to the couch. “Not yet. Let’s get you some water. You need to take it slow.”
“Well…” Drew nervously looks at the massive man, then to Violet. “Callie has it under control. Let’s get out of here.”
“Yes,” I smile sweetly. “I interrupted enough of your night.”
Violet looks from me to Drew, then back at me.
“Go on. I’m fine.”
Violet holds her phone up.
“What are you doing?” The guy asks, his hand rubbing over the bandage by his ribs.
“Taking your picture. This way, if you try to do anything to my sister, I—”
“Oh, pictures. Great idea.” I grab my phone and snap one after the other. “Okay, now look sultry.”
“What the fuck?”
Violet laughs. “On that note, we’re leaving. But if you even think of hurting my sister—or worse—I have your photo.”
Drew grabs her arm and pulls her toward the door. “Callie’s fine. It’s that poor guy we should be worried about.”
Right before the door closes, Drew’s voice floats into the room. “She’s crazy.”
The man’s brows fly up. “Crazy?”
“Drew’s dramatic.” I wave my hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about him. He gets drunk and attacked by rakes. Gets lost and falls in patches of poison ivy.”
