The sedan turns right.
I turn left.
It turns left.
I check my mirror.
Still there.
My mouth twitches.
No fucking way.
I pull into a parking lot.
The sedan slowly drives past.
I don't recognize the car. But I recognize the woman behind the wheel. Even with the oversized sunglasses.
Jesus Christ. Chaos borrowed someone's car.
That's actually smart.
I get out of my truck and start walking, wondering if she’ll come back.
Thirty seconds later, the sedan reappears across the street.
Callie gets out.
As I pass a store, I look in the glass window. I catch her reflection.
She’s wearing a dark wig. A baseball cap. Sunglasses big enough to cover half her face. A hoodie and jeans.
She looks like she's either following me or fleeing the country.
I keep walking, hiding my smile.
I should end this. Turn around, walk over, and tell her I know she's following me. Warn her that if I were anyone else in my profession, doing this shit could get her hurt.
Instead, I keep walking. Because apparently I've lost my fucking mind.
I want to see how long she keeps it up.
The answer is apparently forever.
Every reflective surface gives her away. Store windows. Car windows. Glass doors.
Every time I turn, she suddenly becomes fascinated with whatever happens to be closest.
A bakery. A street sign. A fucking trash can.
I toy with her a bit.
Once I turn the corner, I hurry ahead.
I spot a store ahead. A huge glass window shows a tall, potted plant. I hurry inside and hide behind the plant, watching her.
She hurries around the corner and stops. Her head turns left, then right. Her shoulders fall.
