I smile. “Promise.”
She still looks worried.
I wave, then pull away from the curb.
Operation Find Hitman's House has officially begun.
Finding Roman takes forty-three minutes.
Not that I'm counting.
I check the grocery store first since he said he was going there.
Nothing.
The gym.
Nothing.
I drive past the road where we first met.
Nothing.
I'm beginning to think my plan has one tiny flaw. I don't know where Roman is. Which is irritating because that's the entire reason I'm doing this.
I stop at a red light. My phone sits in the cup holder. I could text him and ask him where he is.
He'd probably answer: Somewhere.
Asshole.
The light turns green.
I drive another two blocks before I see his black truck.
My heart jumps. “Oh my God.”
I duck. The horn blares.
“Shit!”
I sit up. I'm still driving. Probably shouldn't have forgotten that.
Roman's truck is two cars ahead.
I grin. “Found you, Hitman.”
I keep two cars between us. I've watched enough crime shows to know you never follow someone directly.
Roman turns right.
I turn right.
He turns left.
I turn left.
He stops at a red light.
