“Stop looking nervous, Gracie. Nothing's going to happen to your car.”
“You're using it to stalk a hitman.”
“And you have my SUV.”
“That's not reassuring.”
“Mine's worth more.”
“CALLIE.”
I open the door and slide inside. “Have fun. And yes, Darius can drive it.”
She rolls her eyes. “Why does it sound like you trust him more than me?”
“You’re clumsy as hell. He’s not.”
She immediately starts defending herself, but I don’t listen. I close the door, then tilt my head and study my reflection in Gracie’s rearview mirror.
I look nothing like myself. Absolutely nothing.
A smile curls my lips.
Dark brown wig. Oversized sunglasses. Black baseball cap. Gray hoodie. Jeans. Running shoes.
I look mysterious. Unrecognizable. Possibly dangerous. Maybe even European.
I adjust my sunglasses. “Perfect.”
Gracie knocks on the window. “Be careful with my car.”
I roll my eyes.
Her eyes slowly move over my disguise.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“That wasn't a nothing look.”
“You look ridiculous.”
My confidence takes a minor hit. “I do not.”
“You look exactly like someone trying not to be recognized.”
“That's the point.”
“Which makes people look at you.”
“No, it doesn't.”
“Callie, you're wearing sunglasses.”
“Yes.”
“It's cloudy.”
