Beck laughs and starts pulling containers from the bag.

I sit at the table and wait thirty seconds. Then I open my damn big mouth.

“Anything happening in town?”

His hands stop.

Fuck.

Slowly, Beck looks at me. “What?”

“You heard me.”

“I did. I'm just enjoying this.”

“Enjoying what?”

“You pretending that question wasn't about Callie.”

“It wasn't.”

“Of course not.”

I glare at him.

He grins.

I should stop. But I don't.

“Anyone ask about me?”

Beck leans against the counter. “Nope.”

His grin gets wider. “Agnes?”

I stare at him. “You know her name?”

“Hard not to. She introduced herself before interrogating me.”

What the hell kind of weirdo does that?

He laughs. “No. Agnes hasn't tracked me down again.”

I lean back in the chair.

Good. Exactly what I wanted.

Beck watches me. I hate when he does that.

“What?”

“You look disappointed.”
