“Thanks for making me deaf,” I mutter.
“Did you stab him?”
“No, I didn't stab him.”
I glance at his ridiculously handsome face. Strong jaw. Dark hair. Long lashes.
It should be illegal to look that good unconscious.
“He's way too fucking hot.” I smile. “I'd straddle him, not stab him.”
She’s silent for a beat before she asks, “Are you in your car?”
“Yes. I'm heading home.”
“So why,” Violet says slowly, “is a man who's lost a lot of blood sitting in your passenger seat?”
“You ask too many questions.” I make the turn toward my neighborhood. “Just meet me at my house.” I glance at his bloody shirt. “And wear something old. You'll probably get blood on it.”
“Callie—”
I end the call.
Problem solved.
I’m nothing if not resourceful.
I tap the screen.
A second later, Behind the Mask starts playing through the speakers.
Perfect.
I glance over at the unconscious hitman beside me. I have the weirdest luck.
Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome dropped right into my life. Exactly how I always imagined.
Well... I didn’t exactly expect him to be stabbed and bleeding. But nobody's perfect.
Focus, Callie.
Step one: Keep him alive.
Step two: Ask his name.
Step three: Figure out if he's single.

CALLIE
I squint against the glare of Violet’s headlights.
She pulls in beside me, her face a mask of irritation.
I get out of my SUV and close the door. “Don’t look so pissy. You can go back to rake victim soon.”
She rolls her eyes and shuts her driver’s door. “Stop calling him that.”
