All that mattered was getting him back.
“He doesn’t even have a name,” I whispered.
Dax’s warm breath misted over my lips. “We can fix that. We can pick a name right now if you want to.”
But I shook my head. “I can’t.”
I didn’t have to explain to Dax why. He accepted my heart and my head just couldn’t. Not yet. Not while I was in shock and it was taking every ounce of strength not to fall apart.
“Then we won’t. We’ll wait until he’s back in our arms.”
I just prayed that wasn’t so long he could actually talk and tell us his name himself.

Dear Diary,
“I love you” sounds a lot less dramatic when it’s followed by “Shut up and fuck me.”
Istormed out of the house with the feeling of Nyah’s skin still burning my lips. Lynx moved close at my side, exactly where I wanted him, always, even though he smelled like a fucking sewer.
I knew I did too, but Viktor and Bruno didn’t mention it, and neither did the doctor who passed us on his way into the house.
I caught his arm. “She’s important to me. If she dies, so will you.”
He did a double take but nodded quickly. “Yes, sir.”
“Thank you,” Lynx added, then looked over at me wryly. “Should I start calling you Carlos now, or…”
I scowled at him. “Like you feel any differently about her.”
He held his hands up in mock surrender. “Not saying I do, but you’re suddenly sounding more Mafia than I’ve ever heard you.”
“Yeah, well, that’s what happens when someone takes your son.”
He glanced at me, and I knew he heard it.
The truth in the statement.
That Nyah’s baby wasn’t just hers and Dax’s. That I wasn’t just saying it because it meant an army of my father’s soldiers would hunt Enzo down and bring us back what had never been his to take.
That I was saying it because in my heart that baby was mine.
Just like his mother.
Just like Lynx.
Just like freaking Dax, who I’d actually come to care for as more than a friend during the long hours we’d spent locked up together.
Not that I wanted to jump Dax’s bones the way I did with Lynx. It wasn’t necessarily that sort of love I felt for him.
But it was impossible to go through what he and I had and not form an attachment.
Walking away from him felt almost as bad as walking away from Nyah.
Not that I’d tell him that.
