I cried out in pain as a jagged bit flew back toward me, hitting me in the cheek.
My magic wasn’t helping. It was only creating more pieces for me to move.
The prince was going to die because of me.
“Move!” I roared at the largest rock, throwing my daylight into it again. But the heat I usually felt against my palms was replaced by the feeling of sandpaper sliding across my skin.
The large rock rolled off the pile.
I bellowed again, “Move!”
I kept my palms raised as the feeling of sand on skin overwhelmed me. The vibration no longer coming from the pile, but from me.
The pile erupted, rocks flying across the air, revealing Leo tucked into himself under a shield of shadowed night.
I jumped down on top of him as he dropped his shield, hugging him in relief.
“You found me,” Leo said. His first words to me. His eyes wet with tears.
I nodded, partially in shock, squeezing him.
He frowned, running his fingers over my cheek where the piece of rock had hit me. “And you’re hurt.”
He pulled his fingers back to show me the blood there.
“I’m okay,” I assured him. And I was okay, because he was okay.
“And you have two powers,” he noted.
I filled with dread at his words.
He’d learned my secret. The one thing my parents had made me swear to keep.
The world wasn’t safe for a wielder like me. The worlds weren’t safe.
“I could feel the earth, too,” Leo whispered, pausing my spiral. “I kept trying to move the rocks, but they were too heavy.”
I gasped.
The vibration I had felt was his.
He’d been harnessing the earth, too.
A prince of night and a princess of day, both wielders of earth.
He sprang to his feet with excitement. “Will you teach me how you moved them? It will be our secret.”
I nodded, smiling at his excitement, feeling relieved to know someone else was just like me.
“Our secret,” I agreed.
The earth exploded around me, a rush of air returning to my lungs.
My body buzzed all over as a storm of dust and rock swept around me in a steady circle. Earth Two greeting me like an old friend at her center.
She appeared as an apparition, her body outlined in white light. Her features nonexistent, except for long rays of light that formed her tresses, loose curls floating elegantly around her.
I might not know what she looked like, but I could feel her essence radiating from her in soft waves.
