His Cruel Exception

by M.A. DeVant

Davide is almost at the elevator when the doors open and Enzo steps out in a dark overcoat, one hand in his pocket, and nearly walks straight into him. They exchange a brief look before Davide moves past.

Enzo watches the elevator doors close behind him, then turns toward me. “Where’s he going?” he asks as he pulls off his coat and throws it over the back of a chair.

“Brooklyn.”

“You’re sending him to collect your tutor fucktoy?”

“His name is Alexander. And you should choose your next word carefully”

“Ohhh, I am scared of my big, bad cousin.” He crosses the living room and drops into the chair opposite mine, stretching his legs in front of him before reaching for the bottle of whiskey on the table. “He must be very good if you already need to see him again after seeing him yesterday.”

I swipe the first drink he pours from him and take a sip instead of answering.

Enzo pours himself another two fingers and looks at me over the bottle before taking a drink and settling deeper into the chair. “Seems we both had a productive hunt.”

I look at him. “You caught someone?”

His smile grows wider. “Feisty little one,” he says and points at the faint scratches still visible along the side of his neck. “He almost made it to the north boundary before I dragged him back.”

I glance toward the marks along his throat again, then at the faint bruise visible near his collarbone.

“He fought back?”

“Only until I fucked him against a tree and then took him to a hotel for the night,” he says like he’s recounting a good meal.

I rotate my glass slowly between my fingers and pick up my phone when it vibrates against the table. It’s a message from Davide.

He says he has a school project to finish.

I stare at the message for a moment before typing back.

Bring him.

Enzo is watching me. “What’s it?”

“Nothing,” I say as I set my phone facedown.

“Then stop glaring.”

The elevator doors open and Carmine and Raffaele walk in first, arguing about something neither of them will concede on, while Marco follows several steps behind them with the expression he usually wears when he has already had enough of everyone in the room.

Carmine heads straight for the bar. “You disappeared yesterday,” he says as he fills his glass. “Again.”

“He was fucking his tutor,” Enzo sneers. “Teach me statistics, you adorable dork while I fill your ass with my cum.”

“You are one minute away from eating my gun,” I snarl.

Carmine chuckles. “If you don’t want us to tease you, why did you pay two thousand dollars for a tutoring session you don’t need?”

“Just drop it, okay?”

Raffaele lowers himself onto the couch and studies me. “And how does he feel about you buying the place he wanted to work because you didn’t want him stripping there?”

“That’s not dropping it.”

“We have more pressing problems than Antonio developing an obsession.” Marco says from near the windows.

Since Marco rarely interrupts us unless there is a reason, we give him our undivided attention.
