Nick: The Billionaire Star of NHL
Page 81
Without a word, I head for the stairs. I don’t have the patience to wait for the elevator.
I haven’t been here in years. Not since Colt and I were still friends. Back when we used to party and get into trouble like idiots who thought the world belonged to us. But we took different paths. His lifestyle became… different.
Still, I always respected him.
Until now.
I can’t judge him for the playboy image he’s known for—hell, mine’s probably worse—but this? If he had anything to do with Sierra’s breakdown last night, he better be ready for the worst. Him and his empire.
I reach his door, lift my hand to knock and…
The elevator dings behind me. I turn in time to see Ethan, Liam, and Thalia stepping out.
Great.
I throw my head back in frustration. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Before I can say anything else, Thalia steps forward, her expression serious. “Nickolas, I need you to listen to me.”
I open my mouth, but she rises a hand, silencing me.
She pulls out her phone. “While we were watching your game, right after your third goal, Sierra got a message and some photos. From an unknown number.”
She taps on her screen and shows me a screenshot and photos of me with Samantha in bed. FUUUCK!
My eyes scan the texts, my blood turning to stone. My jaw clenches, and I slowly lift my gaze to hers.
“It’s not true,” I grit out. “None of it.”
“I thought so too,” she says quietly. “I tried to make her talk to you. I begged her to call you, to confront you at least, but… it was like she couldn’t hear me. She just kept saying her husband cheated. That it was the same puck-bunny from the Hockey Gala. She was shaking. Crying. I was afraid she was going to pass out.”
My heart shutters at her words. From two reasons. For Sierra, because she had to go through this alone. And for me, because she thinks so low about me.
“Jesus,” Liam groans behind her. “Why the hell didn’t you call me?”
“I thought about it,” she admits. “But I was too focused on making sure she didn’t collapse.”
Thalia goes on, explaining how they ended up at the club. How Colt just happened to show up at the bar next to them.
A coincidence?
Maybe, considering that’s one of his clubs.
But I don’t even know what to believe anymore.
“She’s not pregnant,” I mutter, thinking back to the texts. “And even if she is… it’s not mine. It can’t be. FUCK. I don’t remember a damn thing about that fucking night. But no way. No.”
I drag a hand through my hair, trying to calm the mess brewing in my chest.
Liam steps closer, locking eyes with me. I prepare myself to convince him—to tell him I would never do that to his sister. My wife. Not ever.
But before I can speak, he says, “I didn’t believe it for a second. The moment Thalia showed me that screenshot on the way here… I knew it wasn’t true.”
His words steady me. I’m still a mess, but at least I know I’m not alone in this.
Ethan, quiet until now, finally speaks. “Now let’s figure out what truly happened.”
“What do you mean?” I ask, completely thrown off. Then it hits me—what the girl from the media team told me about Samantha grabbing my phone on the plane and taking forever to return it. I tell them everything. Every interaction I had with her ever since she claimed I slept with her.
