Nick: The Billionaire Star of NHL

I smile, reaching over to brush a strand of hair from her face.

“Thalia, anytime you want to come over, you let me know, and I’ll send the jet. But with all the projects you’re juggling right now… I doubt you’ll find the time.”

She exhales and leans back against the couch.

“You’re right. I’m being selfish. I really do want you to be happy. And honestly? The best thing that ever happened to you is Nick. I can see it. You’re glowing, Ser. There’s this calm about you now, this quiet strength. It’s contagious. Playboy or not, that man is perfect for you. And he’s been nothing less than an ideal partner.”

My heart flutters, and I can’t help the smile that takes over my face.

I pick up my phone and type quickly.

Sierra: Good luck at the game. Show them who the real star of this sport is.

One hour until the puck drops. I wish I could be there.

I place the phone beside me and stretch my arms over my head.

“Enough about me. I want to know what’s going on between you and Ethan, Thalia.”

She immediately rolls her eyes—too dramatic to be convincing.

“Nothing’s happening between us, and I’ve told you that already. Look, he’s absolutely gorgeous, but he’s also the most arrogant man I’ve ever met—tied with Nick, actually. And most of the time, he just gets under my skin with some annoying comment or smug little smirk.”

I raise my eyebrows. “Hmmm… I don’t believe you. But I suppose time will tell.”

We both burst into laughter. The kind of laughter that comes from years of sisterhood, secrets, and late-night-heart-to-hearts. The kind that fills the space around us with warmth, making even the silence feel like home.

“Okay, let’s order some food,” I say, reaching for my phone again. “And then we need to move all these boxes by the door so the movers can grab everything easily tomorrow.”

“Deal,” Thalia replies, standing up and brushing off her leggings. She surveys the living room like a general preparing for battle. “You’re going to need all your strength tomorrow, Mrs. Hardy.”

I grin as I scroll through the food delivery app. Mrs. Hardy. God, I love the way that sounds.

A couple of hours later, Thalia and I are curled up on the black velvet couch in my living room, surrounded by packed suitcases and sealed boxes stacked neatly near the door.

The soft murmur of the commentators fills the room, and the bright light from the TV flickers across our faces as we watch Nick’s game.

The Lions are up, 5 to 2. Nick has scored three of the goals—the last one a stunning shot that electrifies the entire arena. As the camera zooms in on him, he flashes that cocky, boyish grin and winks into the lens.

Thalia lets out a dramatic gasp, her hand flying to her heart. “OMG! That wink was definitely for you, Sierra.” She nudges me playfully with her elbow. “And that man—God. He looks good in everything. Suits, hoodies, gear. I totally get the obsession.”

I chuckle, cheeks flushing. “I know, I know…”

We settle deeper into the couch, the smell of takeout lingering faintly in the air, when my phone vibrates beside me. I reach for it absentmindedly and I see a message from an unfamiliar number.

Unknown: I don’t know if you’re naive enough to think Nick’s only been with you all this time, but it’s time you come back to reality. I’m pregnant. And yes, it’s his. Obviously. I don’t think I need to tell you how thrilled he is, or how ready he is to start a family with me. But if you need proof, here it is. You should back off now.

My hands begin to tremble as I open it. It’s a screenshot of a conversation.

Samantha: I’m so scared, Nick. Are you sure this is what you want? Can I trust that you won’t leave me alone in this?

Nick: Of course this is what I want, Sam. You know I’ll be there every step. I can’t believe we’re having a baby. I’m the happiest man alive, babe.

I receive five more pictures, four of them show the two of them in bed, both naked—it’s more than obvious—covered with a sheet.
