I scoffed. “Of what? Your little friend with the friendly lips?”

His grin widened. “Definitely jealous.”

“Boy, don’t make me leave you standing on this dance floor.”

He caught my hand before I could follow through. “Come here, shorty.”

I tried to pull my hand away, but he pulled me against him instead.

“Look at me, Topaz.”

I reluctantly lifted my eyes.

“Just so you know, ain’t nothing going on with Vanessa. Hasn’t been for years. I ain’t know she was here, and I damn sure ain’t invite her.”

“Okay.”

He gave me a skeptical look. “Okay?”

“Yes, Saadiq. Okay. I heard you.”

He watched me for another moment, and I hid my smile at his cautiousness.

“You got questions?”

I shrugged. “Several, actually. But I’m not wasting my vacation on quizzing you about a thirsty ex.”

“She ain’t my ex.”

I blinked. “Oh, really?”

“Yeah, smart ass. We used to mess around. I never made her any promises.”

“Well, somebody forgot to tell her that.”

It was his turn to lift his shoulders. “That’s a her problem.”

I shook my head. “So damn arrogant.”

“I’ve heard that before.”

“From Vanessa?” I taunted.

“Shiii, from you. Almost every damn day.”

I laughed despite myself.

He bent and kissed my forehead. “Now, can I get back to dancing with my woman?”

I made a little sound that had him glaring down at me.

“What?”

My eyebrow lifted. “Your woman?”

He leaned down, his mouth brushing my ear.

“You want me to stop calling you that?”
