She thrust the bottle at me. “While we agree to disagree, try some.”
After taking a long swig, I swished the liquid around my mouth to get a really good taste. Once I swallowed it down, I nodded at Mina. “Just as I thought. Amazing.”
She eyed me suspiciously. “You’re not just saying that, are you?”
“Why would I try to play you when we’ve already done the deed?” I teased.
“Asshole!” She then threw the bottle cap at me. “
“Ooh, someone has a temper,”I mused as it bounced off my arm.
“I do not.”
“You just assaulted me with a bottle cap.”
“I did nothing of the sort,” she huffed before sitting down in one of the chairs.
“Well, despite your willful bottle cap assault, I have to say the beer is seriously good.” I grabbed one of the green bottles. “Let me try this one.”
After sucking down a few swigs, I grimaced. “Nope. This one isn’t for me.”
Mina leaned forward in your chair. “What don’t you like?”
“It’s too…fruity.”
Nodding, she replied, “I thought so. The other taste testers really liked it, but I kept thinking something was off.”
“A little less fruit and more hops maybe,” I suggested.
With a grin, Mina said, “I’ll take that under consideration.” Motioning to the pile, she said, “Try the brown one.”
“This isn’t going to be one of those ‘beer before liquor never sicker’, is it?”
“I’d say no since they’re all beer.”
“Good point.”
After two hearty gulps, I gave her a thumbs up. “It’s been Thor and…” Squinting, I tried reading the label on this one.
“Frejya,” Mina answered for me.
“She tastes good. Not as good as you, but she’s good.”
“Such a flatterer.”
The truth was the beer was seriously good. Once again, I was floored by the talent Mina had. She deserved all the success possible.
And then an idea hit me.
I dug my phone out of my pocket. Opening up Instagram, I began filming a reel. “Hey guys, it’s me, #45, Gavin Mulvaney. I know you’re wondering where I’m at that’s dark as hell. Well, I’m up in the mountains enjoying Oktoberfest in Helen. And I had to come on here to tell you about the seriously amazing beer I’ve found up here.”
Waving the bottle at the screen, I said, “It’s called Vanir for these characters in German mythology. This one right here is called Thunraz, which is the German name for Thor. It’s totally kickass. Once I know how to get it, I’ll link the website because you have got to try it. I’m hoping they’ll even start carrying it at the arena. See ya later!”
When I finished, I glanced up to see tears streaking down Mina’s face. Oh fuck. I’d totally screwed up by giving props to her beer.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Without a word, Mina rose out of her chair to come over to me. While I didn’t think she would slap me, I braced myself for it just in case. Instead, she threw her arms around me. “Okay, maybe I should’ve done that.”
